Valerie Martinez is a poet, translator, teacher, playwright, librettist, and collaborative artist. Her books include Absence, Luminescent; World to World; A Flock of Scarlet Doves: Selected Translations of Uruguay's Delmira Agustini; Each and Her; And They Called It Horizon and Reinventing the Enemy's Language.

Valerie has more than twenty years of experience as a classroom teacher, primarily at the college level. For over ten years, she has also taught children, young adults, adults, teachers, and seniors in a wide range of community outreach and educational programs.

She is Executive Director and Core Artist with Littleglobe. Recent collaborations/ performances include Lifesongs; Ruta--A Santa Fe Bus Opera; The Common Ground TOC Festival, Salve--Women on War and Warriorship, and Memorylines Santa Fe--Voces de Nuestras Jornadas. She was Artistic Director of Lines & Circles, a collaborative art and poetry project with three and four generations of eleven Santa Fe families.

Valerie teaches at the Institute for American Indian Arts (IAIA) and the University of New Mexico She was the Poet Laureate of Santa Fe, New Mexico for 2008-2010.
