PENNY RAE, anative of the United
Kingdom, has worked extensively across Europe, the United States, and
in the African countries of Zimbabwe and Swaziland.
She
collaborates with a wide range of artists to make publications, exhibitions,
public art installations and performances and continually seeks to engage
with people through issues based arts projects. For the last seven years,
she has worked on arts projects focused around the subjects of immigration
and asylum, hospice care, art and public transport, and numerous other
public projects. Rae has published extensively throughout Europe and
writes arts reviews for The Bulletin and on a freelance basis
for several other magazines. She holds a BA with honors in Dance and
Creative Writing from the University of Leeds, England.
Her work has been nominated for
numerous arts awards. Her collaborations in Ireland with the national
bus company and with O’Callahan Properties, the leading Irish
construction company, on the construction of a new contemporary art
gallery were awarded several arts and business awards. Her project New
Young Europeans won the prestigious London Time Out award.
Rae will collaborate with Molly
Sturges on the development of her project New Young Europeans
into a contemporary opera to be presented in Ireland and the UK in 2008.
In June 2007 she begins research on her latest project The Poetry
of Every Day Life for the Scotland based organization Art in
Hospitals. Projects in Istanbul and in London are also in research
stages.
